Håkan Karvonen

Håkan Karvonen is a painter and a research-based artist. His figurative painting explores painting as a concept, as well as aspects such as perspective, illusion, and symbolism. His artistic process begins with the idea of the painting as part of something larger and how painting relates to the fact that the canvas is an object within a space. Therefore, his subjects are primarily chosen to contribute to creating a visual experience for the viewer, where the eyes travel between the two-dimensional and three-dimensional worlds.

To maintain the illusion created by this method, Håkan works in series. By using the same color palette as the foundation for a painted series, he preserves the impression of an autonomous world, keeping the illusion intact.

Håkan works with architectural elements to enhance the experience of moving between his painted worlds and the surrounding space. In this way, he creates a portal between the viewer’s world and his painted world, allowing for an uninterrupted journey.
